When I first walked into Bellina Alimentari, I felt as if I had been transported to Mercato Centrale (Central Market) in Florence, Italy. The only difference was that I had not taken an 8-hour plane ride to Europe, no, I was in Atlanta, Georgia at Ponce City Market.
I walked around in awe for a few minutes with my head swirling around like a kid in a candy store. The smell of baking bread, the sight of fresh mozzarella, shelves stocked with my favorite Biscotti, Olive Oils, and sauces imported from Itlay, the decor and the atmosphere intrigued me.
When my excited finally mellowed down, I learned that Bellina Alimentari is an Italian market, a restaurant, bar and, a culinary club that was designed by Tal Postelnik Baum to be experienced seamlessly under one roof.
Alice, the creative director of Bellina Alimentari, shares more about the Bellina Alimentari experience below:
In what ways are Bellina true to Italian cuisine and Atlanta culture?
At Bellina Alimentari everything is cooked daily from scratch with only the best ingredients that arrive from local, humane, ecological and organic farms as much as possible. The menu changes seasonally. Each dish is tasty, fresh, healthy, balanced and affordable.
We offer a variety of specialty and unique imported foods from Italy combining them with local fresh ingredients. We truly believe in promoting real “Made in Italy” foods as well as appreciating our cultural context and supporting our local community of farmers and artisans.
What is an ideal meal to eat – Antipasto, Primo, Secondo, Insalata, Dolce, Caffe/Drinks ?
A misto board to share (local and Italian cheeses and cured meats, house baked bread, marinated olives). A main pasta dish, and dessert.
When it comes to drinks we suggest to start with an Amaro based cocktail as an aperitivo, followed by our natural wine selection to be paired with food.
What are your most loved dishes?
We have just introduced some great spring dishes and our Prosciutto e Piselli pasta is to die for. House made fresh pasta (using White Oak Pasture eggs), Spotted Trotter rosemary ham, fresh spring peas and a light cream sauce. A classic Italian dish, adapted to the local context.
What are a few things that make Bellina unique to the Atlanta area?
Bellina is a team of passionate and forward thinking professionals who believe in making a difference to everyday life through food. Our mission is to follow seasonality, respect and support our local community and stay true to Italian authentic cuisine by offering delicious and affordable food.
